Verify the status of your registration each year before the end of the voter registration period. That's before October 5, 2026 for the November 3 General Election.
First check the Secretary of State's records.
Confirm your registration status on the Secretary of State's Are You Registered? tool. Enter you name and date of birth, then select one of three methods for conducting your search. This tool allows you to check to see if the current address showing is the right one for where you are living now.
After entering your name and date of birth, then you can base your search on:
1. Your Voter Unique Identifier (VUID) which appears on your voter registration certificate;
2. Your Texas driver's license number, or
3. County and ZIP code.
If you do not find yourself in the Secretary of State's database, that does not necessarily mean you are not registered. Their software is incomplete. Instead check with your county. The Hays County Elections Office is the official repository of voter records in this county. Hays County has its own Hays County Voter Registration and Precinct Lookup tool. It can tell you that you are registered and what precinct you are in, but does not allow you to make sure you are registered at your current address.
If your status shows a “Suspense” status do not worry. This means your registration is suspended, not cancelled. This means the registrar is not certain of your residential address.
What should you do if you are suspended?
Update your address online by Oct. 5 for the November 3, 2026 General Election — and be removed from the suspense list.
To do so, you will need your current driver’s license or ID, Social Security number and Voter Unique Identifier Number, or VUID, on your registration card. You can also find your VUID number with your county registrar.
You should receive a new Voter Certificate in the mail within 30 days of submitting a change through this service.
Or complete the Statement of Residence form at the polls iIf you reside in the same county where you are registered. Once you have completed, signed, and submitted this document you will be able to vote.
**If you moved to a new county, you may vote a Limited Ballot during early voting at the MAIN EARLY VOTING LOCATION. If required to use a Limited Ballot you may vote in all statewide races and any district offices that are common between your former and new counties of residence.
