About Us

The League of Women Voters of Hays County is part of a nonpartisan political organization operating at the local, state, and national levels.  We neither support nor oppose candidates or parties.

You can become a member, volunteer, donor, or join our mailing list to support our work. Your involvement helps us

•   encourage informed and active participation in government;
•   work to increase understanding of major public policy issues; and
•   influence public policy through education and advocacy.

When you join the League of Women Voters of Hays County you become a member of a team of passionate voters who work in all 50 states, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and in more than 700 state and local Leagues!

Membership in the League of Women Voters of Hays County includes membership in LWV-Texas (lwvtexas.org) and LWVUS (LWV.org).

Men as well as women are welcomed into full membership and leadership. (Sometimes the word "Women" in our name brings the assumption that only women are members or in leadership positions.) People ages 16 and up of any gender identity are welcome.

Our volunteers work year-round to register new voters, host community forums and debates, and provide voters with election information they need.  The Hays County League engages in Hays County and at the Texas state level on legislative priorities and efforts to improve our elections.

Our funding comes from the local portion of membership fees, donations, and grants. Your donation will fund major voter education programs including

•   the creation and printing of the Voters Guide in English and Spanish for distribution across the county and online at Vote411.org;
•   using traditional and social media communications to reach Hays County residents;
•   the informational and motivational materials the Voter Services team distributes every year;
•   ways to target and distribute information to a large constituency.

We want to ensure nonpartisan, accurate information is shared with voters on how to register to vote, to vote during an election and how to maintain voter status.

The League of Women Voters of Hays County is a 501 (c)(3) organization.   Contributions are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Local League History

The LWV of Hays County formed in 1962 in San Marcos. Some three decades later a group of civically active women in Wimberley decided that a league was needed in Wimberley. They first formed a Members-at-Large group under the auspices of the state league, and later attempted to form a league of their own. Soon realizing that they didn't have enough local participants to sustain a local league, they began working towards a joint league to be renamed the League of Women Voters of Hays County.

In 2017 an active group of women and men in Dripping Springs joined, bringing additional talent, skills, and energy to the Hays County League. Now the League would like to expand their voter services to other parts of the county.
